How the Four Seasons Hotel Palo Alto uses social media for customer service

It is pleasant to remark that some hotel truly understands the way of using the social media. There is only Four Seasons hotel groups to have this sense of customer service and attention even out of their establishment.
This week I’ve wrote that one of the Four Saison’s hotel answer quickly to a customer’s tweet who was saying that he was so exciting in being to the Four Saisons Hotel Palo Alto spa to relax after his long day. The hotel quickly replies to his tweet by proposing him to make a reservation.
In reading the article, I was amazed by the hotel’s reaction. That is what we can call “customer care”. They deliver unique service to this client; furthermore they enhance their host’s unique experiences.

Social media is not only a tool to promote and to communicate about the hotel. It is also a way of engagement and human being relation. I really like this approach of service. They create a real relationship by listening the customer’s need.

Indeed, hotels have to find new ideas and interesting way of communicating their brand. For theses raisons, it is important to value all the different aspect of doing it. Nowadays, more and more hoteliers are using videos in their website in order to attract costumers’ curiosities. But this action has a cost, for that this week I will discuss on videos ROI for hoteliers.

Internet users are extremely interested by videos; some statistics confirm the increase of its absorption. So, there is a huge potential by doing it. Nonetheless, it is important to measure how people interact with videos. By doing so, hoteliers will gather some useful data that can be leveraged to take action in order to increase traffic and conversion.  

It’s very difficult to put an exact dollar figure on video’s ROI but in another hand it participates directly in public relation, human resource, sales, and advertising. With foresight and a smart planning, the video can sometime solve business problems.

I think it is almost impossible to define exactly the videos’ ROI, but we can be sure that it will bring value. Regarding the competition, the video is a must have in hotels’ websites, nowadays. And, the ROI could be measure by the attractiveness of the websites.

Regarding my result, it demonstrates that my interactivity on tweeter is very low. It's completely true, usually I share on tweeter once or twice a week. There datas are relevant. It's amazing that they can measure how often we interact and how influent we are.

They can adapt their messages to their customers related to the importance of the interactions concerning a given subject. Equally, with this tool they will know what kind of topics clients like to interact with. And finally, hoteliers should record all their scores like that they will establish a list who will classify the topics that work the best and the least.

After a great week of vacation, I’m back to discuss and share with you a new article that I’ve found interesting.
Once again, the social media is taking a huge place in the hotel businesses. Currently hoteliers have the possibility to load their hotel booking-engine within their Facebook Pages. It is an excellent marketing way to increase direct booking. By doing so, hoteliers will facilitate and accelerate customers’ decision booking making. Clients will be much more active thanks to this tool.
In reading this article I immediately look at some hotels’ Facebook page and I find out that The MGM Hotel in Las Vegas has already launched it.
I think this possibility of doing that will have an important impact on hotels’ direct booking. When we pay attention at the size of Facebook community we can just imagine the traffic that hoteliers could gain.

As I did last week, I will continue to speak about the same topic related to Online travel agency. I’m very interested about this topic and this week I would like to share it again with.
According to this article, hoteliers should have in mind different practices that will help them in reducing their OTAs’ dependency. Here are some of them:
-       Increase marketing budget to drive direct booking
-       Adapt to the market and be ready to realize strategies’ modification
-       Use properly the forecast in order to be flexible when using third parties expertise.
-       OTAs must be supplemental revenue driver
-       Manipulate with precaution availability and prices in order to diminish the loss of potential customers toward OTAs.

Nowadays hoteliers have the possibility to better control their hotel’s dependency on OTAs thanks to social medias. By doing so, they will diminish their commissions and will be in a strong position to negotiate. Thus, if hotels do not think or not proceed to modifications they will be lost in this huge market. They can’t do the same thing that they were doing years ago.

I have the strong feeling that OTAs will loose the hotels’ dependencies, It is just question of time.

Expedia, Orbitz feeling impact of American Airlines exodus.

This week I have found important to share with you this article . According to a UBS Investment Research note, American Airlines do not anymore authorized Orbitz and Expedia to display their schedules or sell airline tickets of their company. This is due to a mutual disagreement between these parties. Since that event occurs, the two Giants have seen their air transactions fall importantly and the hotel reservations may be impacted as well. Concerning American Airline their direct reservation are increasing and in long term it may be more profitable for them.

The disagreements between them do not surprise me even if Orbitz and Expadia.com have an important presence on the airline market thanks to their renowned. It is the time to change the online travel agencies methods and it started with these two giants but it could impact the others.

The American Airlines’ action could gives some ideas to the others airlines companies and also to the hotels. I think the online travel agencies could be affected a lot, if they do not make supple their commissions and if they do not modified their way of providing customers’ choices of fares and schedules. It may be the beginning of the online reservations substitutions. Nowadays, the airlines companies and the hotels know more about the online market and they are increasingly developing their own websites.

For this New Year I have found interesting to share this article with you. Best Western hotels worldwide have launched an amazing tool for travellers who possess the Ipad; which is the ‘Best Western to Go free application’ running equally for Iphone and Android. It is not their first application; they already launched one in December 2009 only for Iphone mobile phone.




The aim of this application is to simplify travellers’ booking reservation, to find easily Best Western Hotel in any country of the world and besides that the users can do many fun handling such as to create itineraries in order to help their travel planning, to save past or future trips and also favorite locations visited. Users could as well track details of their trip and share it with friends and family.

In doing this application, Best Western Worldwide will increase their visibility and knowing how the Ipad’s selling where famous, they absolutely will develop their hotels’ frequenting. 
Being curious, I have downloaded the Best Western to go application on my Ipad, it is so basic to use and this one allow us to share comments in their blog, to know more about the Best Western company, to follow them in their Tweeter and Facebook pages in one click.

I’m completely seduced by this application; I have spent a lot of time on it, it’s very pleasant and amusing.
In order to develop the brand awareness this free application is an excellent marketing tool and we can remarked how this hotel group uses positively this new technology.

Thanks to digital marketing’ courses, I am absolutely much more attracted in marketing and this week I have found interesting to share with you this article related to online travel marketing trends.
According to the bigmouthmedia travel report 2011, we could observe that travel sector is modifying its marketing strategy by increasing the social strategies budgets toward direct email marketing for the first time. With this element in mind, we could understand the importance given to the digital marketing in general and particularly to the social media. Thus, this new trend allows to easily measure the results.
The survey made from 78 leading travel professional has permitted to demonstrate the increase of digital marketing’s interests; this one should grow by its budget share from 56% in 2010 to 60 % in 2011.
