Expedia, Orbitz feeling impact of American Airlines exodus.

This week I have found important to share with you this article . According to a UBS Investment Research note, American Airlines do not anymore authorized Orbitz and Expedia to display their schedules or sell airline tickets of their company. This is due to a mutual disagreement between these parties. Since that event occurs, the two Giants have seen their air transactions fall importantly and the hotel reservations may be impacted as well. Concerning American Airline their direct reservation are increasing and in long term it may be more profitable for them.

The disagreements between them do not surprise me even if Orbitz and Expadia.com have an important presence on the airline market thanks to their renowned. It is the time to change the online travel agencies methods and it started with these two giants but it could impact the others.

The American Airlines’ action could gives some ideas to the others airlines companies and also to the hotels. I think the online travel agencies could be affected a lot, if they do not make supple their commissions and if they do not modified their way of providing customers’ choices of fares and schedules. It may be the beginning of the online reservations substitutions. Nowadays, the airlines companies and the hotels know more about the online market and they are increasingly developing their own websites.

For this New Year I have found interesting to share this article with you. Best Western hotels worldwide have launched an amazing tool for travellers who possess the Ipad; which is the ‘Best Western to Go free application’ running equally for Iphone and Android. It is not their first application; they already launched one in December 2009 only for Iphone mobile phone.




The aim of this application is to simplify travellers’ booking reservation, to find easily Best Western Hotel in any country of the world and besides that the users can do many fun handling such as to create itineraries in order to help their travel planning, to save past or future trips and also favorite locations visited. Users could as well track details of their trip and share it with friends and family.

In doing this application, Best Western Worldwide will increase their visibility and knowing how the Ipad’s selling where famous, they absolutely will develop their hotels’ frequenting. 
Being curious, I have downloaded the Best Western to go application on my Ipad, it is so basic to use and this one allow us to share comments in their blog, to know more about the Best Western company, to follow them in their Tweeter and Facebook pages in one click.

I’m completely seduced by this application; I have spent a lot of time on it, it’s very pleasant and amusing.
In order to develop the brand awareness this free application is an excellent marketing tool and we can remarked how this hotel group uses positively this new technology.

Thanks to digital marketing’ courses, I am absolutely much more attracted in marketing and this week I have found interesting to share with you this article related to online travel marketing trends.
According to the bigmouthmedia travel report 2011, we could observe that travel sector is modifying its marketing strategy by increasing the social strategies budgets toward direct email marketing for the first time. With this element in mind, we could understand the importance given to the digital marketing in general and particularly to the social media. Thus, this new trend allows to easily measure the results.
The survey made from 78 leading travel professional has permitted to demonstrate the increase of digital marketing’s interests; this one should grow by its budget share from 56% in 2010 to 60 % in 2011.

Nowadays, the travel sector starts to be really aware about the online marketing development. The fact that digital marketing allows to measure the results this one tends to be the best tool than the others for marketers in term of control.
In my point of view, this trend is very positive for travel sector, for employees thanks to the creation of new job opportunities and for the clients who will be definitely much more engage.
